Frequently Asked Questions

Identity verification through Stripe Identity costs $2.00 per verification. This fee is charged when a user successfully completes the verification process. The cost is absorbed by My Rental Spot — there is no charge to tenants or landlords for verifying their identity.
Stripe Identity accepts driver's licenses, passports, and national ID cards from over 100 countries. The system automatically detects the document type and extracts relevant information including name, date of birth, address, and expiration date.
Yes. All sensitive identity data is stored by Stripe and never touches My Rental Spot's systems. Stripe encrypts PII data at rest and in transit. Users give explicit consent before sharing any data, and can manage, retrieve, or delete their data at any time through Stripe's privacy tools.
Yes. My Rental Spot requires identity verification for both sides of the rental relationship. Tenants must verify before submitting applications or setting up rent payments. Landlords and property managers must verify before creating leases, listing properties, or collecting rent. This two-sided approach builds trust for everyone on the platform.
If verification fails, the user receives a clear explanation of the reason (expired ID, photo too blurry, selfie didn't match, etc.) and can re-attempt immediately. Common failure reasons include expired documents, poor lighting during photo capture, or obstructed text on the ID. Users get up to 3 attempts before needing to contact support.
Identity verification is valid for 12 months from the date of completion. After expiration, users will be prompted to re-verify. If a user's government ID expires before the 12-month mark, they'll need to re-verify with a current, valid document.
No. Identity verification through Stripe Identity is completely separate from credit checks. It only confirms that you are who you say you are using your government ID and a selfie. No credit bureaus are contacted and no inquiries appear on your credit report.
